We're glad you're interested.
This program is designed to help train the next generation of reformed pastors by immersing them in church life alongside top-quality pastors and staff members. The skills our interns learn, the experiences they enjoy, and the relationships they cultivate will allow them to develop the tools helpful to be effective for the Kingdom.
Who are we?
We are a historic church in the capital city of South Carolina with outreach in many spheres of the community. This internship is a unique opportunity to live and minister in the urban, southern setting of Columbia, SC while learning from and being shepherded by our world-class staff, headed by Dr. Derek Thomas, our Senior Minister and Chancellor's Professor of Systemic and Practical Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary.
What do interns do?
All Pastoral Interns work an average of 20 hours per week while continuing academic coursework. Half of those 20 hours will be spent doing general pastoral duties including teaching, discipling, counseling, and visitation. The other half of the time will be spent in a Ministry Area. Each Intern is placed into a specific ministry area for the duration of the program. This will provide an opportunity for depth in their ministry experience.
What is the vision?
We want to help train up the next generation of men to be deployed for a lifetime of ministry.
How long does the internship last?
The internship lasts for three years. Interns must reside in Columbia at First Presbyterian Church while employed as an intern.
Who is this for?
We want to provide a professional development opportunity for men who are pursuing a call to vocational ministry. This program is best suited for those who are entering seminary or who are finishing their first year.
Can I make this work?
We will provide a living stipend, as well as the Church Partnership Program Scholarship for each intern. We have several interns with young families. Don't hesitate to give us a call if you would like to talk about practical considerations.
